PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of Zion Lutheran Preschool is to aid parents in early childhood rearing.
Our preschool promotes learning through hands-on work and play under the guidance of qualified
teachers and assistants. The greatest asset of our undertaking is that ours is a CHRISTIAN
preschool. It will enable your child to develop and broaden their experiences within a Christian environment, and prepare your child for the transition from home life to a more structured school life.
We believe in Proverbs 22:6; "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it". The school offers the parents neither a baby-sitting service nor a home replacement (day care centers).; instead it works with the parents and strengthens and supports them in their efforts. We believe that the Christian preschool can play an important role in your child's early development.
Each child is treated as a unique child of God. We respect each child's individuality and try to instill in each child a positive and healthy image through our program.
ELIGIBILITY & ENROLLMENT
Zion Lutheran Preschool enrollment is limited to children between 3 and 5 years of age. Children must be fully potty trained and able to care for themselves in the lavatory.
Classes are filled on a "first come first served" basis. A waiting list will be maintained for all classes. Class size is limited to 15 children. A child/staff ratio is 10 students to 1 staff member.
PROGRAM GOALS & OBJECTIVES
- To provide a program and setting in which the child and the family can grow in understanding of their relationship to God and their fellow man.
- To provide a Christian atmosphere to help the young child learn effective means to share and communicate effectively with other students and adults.
- To offer a structured program geared to the child's level which provides appropriate learning and readiness experiences.
- To allow your child to experience the joy of learning and discovery.
- To provide program, materials and equipment at a pace which will meet the child's needs for proper physical development.
- To provide assistance to the parents so their child can make an easier adjustment from home-life to school-life.
BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT
At Zion Lutheran Preschool we use positive reinforcement and treat each child as a special, unique child of God. Praise and encouragement help the young child to learn effective menas of behavior. Young children appreciate knowing what the limits are, and usually are eager to follow them. Learning self-discipline is an important part of preschool education. It is easy for the child to develop self-control and a sense of responsibility by making the rules very simple.
(More on behavior management is available in the preschool handbook or from the teachers).
